United 7th, Rocky 7th, Alleman 9th in AP High School Football Top 10 Poll
United, Mercer County, Orion and Rock Island have all moved up, and two other area teams are making their debuts in this week's Associated Press High School Football Poll.

United, which improved to 3-0 after beating Stark County in a wild game last week, jumped from 9th to 7th in the Class 1-A top ten. Lewistown (3-0) and Bushnell-Prairie City-Avon (2-1) received votes for consideration, but fell short of cracking the poll.

Mercer County (3-0) is now ranked #2 in Class 2-A after a #3 ranking last week. The Golden Eagles received four first-place votes. Orion (3-0) moved up to #5, three spots higher than last week. Stark County (2-1) and Annawan-Wethersfield (2-1) both dropped out of the poll this week.

Illini West (3-0) received 10 first-place votes and remains the top-ranked team in Class 3-A. Wilmington (3-0) got two first-place votes and is ranked #3. Pittsfield-Griggsville-Perry (3-0) of the West Prairie Trail Southwest Division moved up two spots to #5 this week. Olympic Conference member Sherrard (3-0) received consideration but did not get into the top ten.

Rock Island Alleman (2-1) debuts this week at #9 in the Class 4-A poll. The Pioneers and Galesburg square off in the Western Big Six opener for both teams Friday night at Augustana College. Geneseo (3-0) remains at #4 this week and Bloomington Central Catholic (3-0) is again the top-ranked team.

Rock Island (2-1) moved up a spot to #7 this week in Class 5-A. The Rocks have allowed just six points on defense in their last two games, both wins. Peoria Richwoods (3-0) is #10 after a perfect start to the season, and Galesburg (2-1) got one vote for top ten consideration after routing Ridgewood last Saturday at Van Dyke Field. East St. Louis (1-2) retains the #1 ranking in 6-A despite having two losses, but they were against two Ohio teams with 3-0 records. Undefeated Lemont is ranked #2.

The top ranked teams in Class 7-A and 8-A a week ago remain #1. Chicago St. Rita and Maine South are both off to 3-0 starts.
