|United, Rocky, Alleman Move Up in AP High School Football Poll
|A local high school football team is moving up in its class and two Western Big Six teams are doing the same in the latest Associated Press High School Football Poll.
United (4-0) advanced two spots to #5 in Class 1-A after last week's win at Abingdon. Lewistown, off to a 4-0 start, received eight votes for consideration and Bushnell-Prairie City-Avon, whose only loss was against powerhouse Illini West, also received votes for consideration but did not get into the top ten. Dakota (4-0) is the top ranked team in 1-A.
Olympic Conference member Orion (4-0) climbed three spots to #2 in Class 2-A. The Chargers are coming off a win over Macomb. Mercer County (3-1) falls to #6 in the poll after losing to Illini West after a #2 ranking last week. Stark County (3-1) and Wethersfield (3-1) received votes, but not quite enough, for top ten consideration.
Illini West (4-0) remains the top-ranked team in Class 3-A. The Chargers received 9 of the 12 first-place votes doled out. Pittsfield-Griggsville-Perry (4-0) of the West Prairie Trail stays at #5. Sherrard (4-0), which won at Farmington last week, received votes for top 10 consideration.
Rock Island Alleman (3-1) moved up to #7 this week in Class 4-A after last Friday night's 7-0 win against Galesburg (2-2). The Pioneers were ranked #9 a week ago. Geneseo (3-1) moves down four spots to #8 after a loss to Morris (2-2). Morris enters the this week's poll at #7, tied with Kankakee (3-1). Bloomington Central Catholic (4-0) holds on to its #1 ranking.
Washington (4-0) remains at #4 in Class 5-A, and Metamora (3-1) - which suffered its only loss against Washington, climbs from #7 to #6 this week. East Peoria got one vote for top ten consideration. Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin (4-0) is rated #1.
Rock Island (3-1) switches places with St. Viator (3-1) in the Class 6-A poll at #6. The Rocks easily defeated East Moline (0-4) in the Western Big Six opener for both teams. Richwoods (4-0) remains at #10 this week. Galesburg got one vote for top ten consideration. East St. Louis (2-2) is again the #1 ranked team.
There are no changes in the top spot in Class 7-A and 8-A. Unbeatens Chicago St. Rita (4-0) and Maine South (4-0) retain their top rankings after winning their games last week.
