|High School Football Player Dies Following Game
|BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (AP) -- An autopsy has found that a Chicago high school football player who collapsed during a game died after mucus blocked the airways to his lungs.
The Will County coroner's office released the preliminary findings Saturday for 18-year-old Quaashi Chandler. A final cause of death hasn't been issued pending toxicology tests.
Chandler had a history of bronchial asthma.
The Curie High School running back died Friday night after collapsing during a game against Bolingbrook High School.
Chandler fell on the sideline with 41.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The game was not completed.
Curie head coach Tyson LeBlanc called Chandler "one of our toughest players."
Curie officials met with the football team at the school located on Chicago's southwest side on Saturday.
