|Cubs Starter Silva Shut Down for Week
|ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Silva, who missed his last start on Monday because of elbow tendinitis, will be re-evaluated after a week of treatment.
Silva is 10-6 with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts. He wasn't sure whether he would pitch again this season.
Silva said X-rays taken Monday in Chicago showed only inflammation and he's taking anti-inflammatory medicine. He said he had been pitching with pain for a while.
Jeff Samardzija subbed for Silva on Monday and threw 5 1-3 scoreless innings in a victory over the Cardinals. He will get another start Sunday against Florida at home.
