| Cutler Sees Better Days for Hester |
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Jay Cutler insists there will be better days for Devin Hester, as long as he finds a way to get open.
The Bears' supposed No. 1 receiver caught just one pass in Chicago's 19-14 season-opening victory over the Detroit Lions. It's an eye-catching statistic on a day when several subplots captured the spotlight.
Between the four turnovers, the Bears' failed attempt at the goal line in the fourth quarter, and Calvin Johnson's failure to secure what looked like the go-ahead touchdown for the Lions, it was an eventful day at Soldier Field.
Except for Hester. He caught a 17-yard pass on the game's opening possession and wasn't targeted again after that.
Cutler says he "would have thrown him the ball" had he gotten open against a banged-up secondary, although he also says Hester "played really well" and will "play really well" against Dallas this week. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
