Knox Soccer's Swanson Named Player of Week
Emma Swanson has been on a scoring tear of late for the Knox College women's soccer team, and she's been recognized by the Midwest Conference for her outstanding play.

The junior forward from West Des Moines, Iowa has found the back of the net in five consecutive matches, totaling nine goals during that span.

Swanson scored all five of her teams goals in the three matches Knox played last week: two in a 2-1 victory Wednesday at Robert Morris University at Springfield, one in a 3-1 Midwest Conference loss Saturday at home against Grinnell and two in a 3-2 OT defeat Sunday at Cornell University.

Swanson, who has started all 10 games she's played in, leads the Prairie Fire with 13 goals so far this season. She's also tops on the team in assists (4) and points (30). Two of her goals have been game-winners.

Swanson has helped lead Knox to a 5-5 record, a win total that already surpasses last season. She, along with teammate and last week's Midwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week -- Arielle Dorman -- are making history.

Dorman was selected as a Second Team All-Midwest Conference performer in women's soccer last season, the first Knox all-conference women's soccer player in 10 years. Midwest Conference Sports Information Director Cory Weibel says Knox has not had back-to-back Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week women's soccer players since at least 2000.

The Prairie Fire (5-5, 0-2 MWC) has a busy weekend with a pair of conference home matches. The first one is Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against Lawrence University (3-5, 2-1 MWC), followed by Sunday's contest at 11:00 a.m. against St. Norbert College (2-7, 1-2 MWC).
