|Munich Bid Leader Resigns Due to Health Problems
|MUNICH (AP) -- The leader of Munich's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics has quit because of health problems.
The 68 year old Bogner said last week he has an unspecified bowel disease. On Monday, he said the illness was more serious than first thought and announced his decision to step down.
Bernard Schwank will take over his job. Bogner says he will remain active on the board and assist organizers in marketing and communication.
Munich is competing against Annecy, France, and Pyeongchang, South Korea. The IOC will select the host city in July 2011.
