|Illinois Had Young Team On Field For Opener
|CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois had a lot of fresh faces on the field over the weekend.
The 33-15 win over Arkansas State on Saturday marked the collegiate debut for 11 Illini players, including six true freshmen.
Running backs Donovonn Young and Josh Ferguson received ample playing time in the backfield, while highly touted quarterback Reilly O'Toole played late in the fourth quarter.
Coach Ron Zook says most of the young players had plenty of high-level experience in high school.
Young played at Katy High School in Katy, Texas, which has won four state titles in the past decade. Ferguson comes from the Illinois powerhouse program Joliet Catholic, while O'Toole led Wheaton Warrenville South to two straight state titles.
