HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

A 21-nothing lead going into halftime was one that the Galesburg Silver Streaks couldn't overcome, as the Streaks lost to Peoria Central Friday 34-14. The Streaks had only 152 yards and nine first downs the whole game, dropping them to 1-3.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL LOCAL

Knox College will spend their second straight week at home Saturday, playing Lawrence University in the Midwest Conference opener.

Monmouth College travels to Grinnell for their first Midwest Conference game of the season.

Western Illinois University, with former Silver Streaks Standout Ryan Ricketts, will play in its home opener on new turf Saturday against Jacksonville.


COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY

The Carl Sandburg Chargers cross country teams opened the season Friday in the Bradley Open at Peoria's Detweiller Park. In this early meet, team scores were not tallied so the runners can establish early season times.

In the women's 3-mile race, the Chargers were led by Sara Pille in 35th place in 20:04. Dorothy Mangieri was 43rd in 20:52, followed closely by Miranda King with a 45th place four seconds later. Lindsay Beach was 46th in 21:11, Auty Rohweder 48th in 21:54, and Danielle Cano 49th in 23:22.

In the men's 6K race Brett Curry was the top finisher for the Chargers in 31st place with a 21:33. Curry, a Knoxville high school product, recently transfered to Sandburg after competing his freshman year at Illinois Central. Allen Nelson was the next Charger in 50th with a 23:14. Ryan Crouch was 57th in 23:53,Connor Benson 58th in 24:04, Logan Hickerson 59th in 24:05, Ferguson Efenogo 61st in24:55, Dequante Carson 63rd in 26:15, Joey Swing 66th in 27:33, Nathan Wooters 67th in 28:14, and Josh VanAntwerp 69th in 28:53.
