The Galesburg Silver Streaks volleyball team evened their Western Big-6 Conference record at 2-2 Tuesday night by posting an impressive win over Moline. The Streaks won by scores of 25-10 and 25-19, and will play again Thursday night at Peoria Richwoods. A light area schedule of games Wednesday evening shows the United Red Storm traveling to Peoria Manual, and the Carl Sandburg College women hosting Illinois Valley at John Lewis Gymnasium.
The Galesburg girls golf team is coming off of a rare loss Tuesday, as they were defeated by Normal U-High by 27 strokes. Jessica Leiber was the only Silver Streak to score under 50, coming in with a 42. Wednesday's area golf schedule shows the Mid County girls will play Mercer County at Hawthorne Ridge in Aledo, and the Monmouth-Roseville boys will head west to play Peoria High.
The latest high school football ratings are out, and several future opponents for the Galesburg Silver Streaks are highly regarded this week. The Alleman Pioneers, who will come to Galesburg next Friday, are the top-rated team in class 4A. And the Rock Island Rocks, who will host the Silver Streaks in two weeks, are up to the #7 spot in class 6A. This week, the Streaks are preparing for their homecoming game with United Township. The Streaks, with a record of 3-1, will be favored against the 1-3 Panthers Friday night.
