The area high school sports schedule is light on this Wednesday, with just a few volleyball games to be played: ROWVA will play host to Mercer County; Williamsfield is at home to Kewanee Wethersfield, and Galva travels to Ridgewood. In college volleyball, Carl Sandburg plays at Black Hawk East.

The new high school football ratings show a pair of Western Big 6 teams getting statewide attention. The Alleman Pioneers continue to be #1 in class 4A, while the Rock Island Rocks have moved into the #10 spot in class 6A. Other area teams in the top 10 include Stark County at #9 in class 1A; Mercer County at #1 in class 2A; Elmwood-Brimfield at #5 in class 3A, and Macomb at #10 in class 4A. The Galesburg Silver Streaks are preparing for their Western Big 6 conference opener this week, as they will travel to Moline Friday night.
