The Knox College Prairie Fire couldn't hand Carroll University its first loss of the season on Saturday at the Knosher Bowl. The Pioneers (3-0, 2-0 MWC) defeated Knox 48-6 for their ninth straight victory against the Prairie Fire (0-3, 0-2 MWC). Knox last beat Carroll in September of 2003, 28-7 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first with 22 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by quarterback Justin Butterfield. The touchdown capped a 15-play, 97-yard drive for a 6-0 lead after an unsuccessful extra point attempt.

Monmouth College had a bye week.


Monmouth-Roseville placed 3rd out of five teams at the annual Havana Invitational Saturday, shooting a combined team total of 326. Sam Gillen was the top player for the Titans, shooting a 79 on the day and placing 9th.


The GHS Freshmen Volleyball team lost to two teams from Bettendorf Saturday.

Galesburg's varsity record drops to 2-8 overall, and 1-2 in the Western Big 6 conference after losing in two sets to Rock Island, but defeating Alleman in two sets Saturday. The GHS Sophomores defeated Alleman but lost to Rock Island.


Galesburg's placed fourth at the Dixon Cross Country Invitational Saturday. Monmouth/Roseville was 9th in the 10-team field. Morton placed first, while the host Dunlap placed second. Galesburg's Stephanie Saey., however, came in first individually, with a time of 17:33.

On the boys side at Dixon, Monmouth-Roseville placed 5th while Galesburg placed 6th, and Abindgon placed 10th. Monmouth-Roseville's Devin Clark was the top local finisher, placing 3rd with a time of 15:47.


The GHS Girls Swimming and Diving Team tied its best finish ever at the Champaign Centennial Charger Invitational Saturday, placing 3rd in the 13-team field. Normal Community High School was first. GHS placed first in the 200 Yard Medley, in the 200 Yard Free Relay, and in the 100 yard Breast Stroke (GHS also placed second).


The Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team won its third straight game and remained unbeaten in division play with a 2-0 victory over Malcolm X College on Saturday afternoon at Kleine Equipment Field.

The Monmouth College men's soccer team opened Midwest Conference play with an impressive 2-1 win at St. Norbert Saturday afternoon. The win was the Fighting Scots' first victory over the Green Knights since 2001. The teams tied 1-1 last season.

The Monmouth College women's soccer team lost to St. Norbert 1-0.


Galesburg High School's girls tennis team placed eighth in the GHS Invitational Saturday. Rock Island Alleman was the champion, followed by Dunlap and Jacobs in the top three.


The Carl Sandburg Chargers volleyball team played in the 2012 Southeastern Volleyball Invite this weekend. The Charger where scheduled to play four matches this weekend but only played 3 when Lincoln College drop out on Saturday. The Chargers finished the invite defeating Southeastern College 25-19; 25-19; 25-15 Clinton College 25-11; 28-26 ;25-21 and losing to Lake Land College 22-25; 22-25; 23-25 to go 2-1 for the weekend.


Central College beat Monmouth College Saturday in a women's tennis triangular 9-0. Central also beat Knox College 8-1. The Prairie Fire then came back and beat Monmouth 9-0.
