The Silver Streaks girls golf team is in Rock Island Thursday afternoon, as they match up with Alleman and the host Rocks at the Saukee Course. Coach Brad Gross's team is on a run of 11-straight dual match victories, and he says Monday's win over Geneseo was especially satisfying..

The girls may have had their best day of the season, and one of the best in GHS girls golf history, last Tuesday at Soangetaha. Freshman Taylor Nesselroad fired at 5-under-par 31 that day, and coach Gross says in doing some research, it may have been a record setting day for the entire team.

Seven of the 10 golfers on the GHS team are freshman, while upperclassmen Jordan Koehler and Natalie Johnson provide leadership for the group. You can hear more from coach Brad Gross as he will be the featured guest on our halftime report of Silver Streaks football Friday night at Peoria Richwoods.

The Galesburg boys golf team is also having a solid season, and they look to continue that Thursday in the Quad Cities, as they play United Township in a Western Big-6 dual meet.

Volleyball

Several area volleyball teams will be in action Thursday night. The Knoxville Blue Bullets will go in search of their 11th win of the year when they travel to South Fulton, and the Williamsfield girls will also be on the road, as they go to Glasford to play Illini Bluffs. The Galesburg girls are off until Saturday when they travel to Quincy for the Western Big-6 Quad.

Others

Other events on the local sports schedule includes the GHS girls tennis team playing host to Sterling at Art Fish Courts, where the Streaks are looking for their second win of the season.

On Saturday, the Galesburg Jr. High cross country team will hold its' only home meet of the season, when 18 teams will be in town for the Galesburg Invitational at Lake Storey. The Galesburg Jr. High team is comprised of runners from both Lombard and Churchill schools, under the direction of Chris Pio. Starting time is 9am for the girls on Saturday, with the boys run to follow.
