GOLF

The Galesburg girls golfers are in search of their 9th consecutive dual meet win as they are playing Metamora this afternoon at Bunker Links. The Silver Streaks girls will then get tested this Saturday when they play at the Normal Community Invitational.

In boys play today, Williamsfield is up against Ridgewood at Oak Run, while Knoxville is at Midwest Central.

VOLLEYBALL

Three area volleyball teams will be in action this evening, with only one of them on their home court. The Knoxville Blue Bullets will be looking to improve on their 8-2 record when they host Rushville-Industry at Jensen Gymnasium. The United Red Storm heads east to play Peoria Central tonight, while Monmouth-Roseville is going west to Carthage to battle Illini West.

FOOTBALL

United Township comes to town tomorrow night for a Western Big 6 football game with the Silver Streaks. Both teams are 1-1, as the Panthers lost at Quincy in their opener, but won a wild affair last week with Peoria Manual. The Streaks won their opener with Moline, but lost last week to Alleman 28-7. Panthers head coach Ron Litchfield tells WGIL that he sees this as a very even matchup.

The game will be the homecoming contest for GHS, and Litchfield says as the visitor, he hopes the Silver Streaks players get caught up in everything but the game.

We doubt that Streaks' coach Tim Dougherty allows that to happen, but we'll get more comments from both head coaches at 7:06 tomorrow night on the pregame show here on WGIL.

WRESTLING

Knox College has hired a new full-time men's wrestling coach. Joe Norton will take the reins of the Prairie Fire wrestling program beginning Monday, as he replaces Tony Islas (is loss), who stepped down in July after 12 years on the job. Norton comes to Knox from his alma mater, North Central College in Naperville, where he as been an assistant for the past 7 years. Norton attended Lombard Montini High School, where he was an all-state selection in 2006, as well as being an AAU first-team All American.
