|Silver Streaks Boys Golf Team Shooting for Back-to-Back State Appearances
|Galesburg has one more hurdle to clear to qualify for the Class 2A state tournament.
The Silver Streaks won the Class 2A Galesburg Regional at Lake Bracken last week, edging Peoria Notre Dame by three strokes (323-326) and Rock Island by 12. Those two teams join Galesburg in Monday's Sterling Sectional at Emerald Hill Golf Course.
Sophomores Kelby Rescinito and Jacob Schwieter both shot 79s to lead GHS. David Blake was next with an 81 and Kyle Osborn carded an 84.
Galesburg met Peoria Notre Dame another time - September 9th at Bunker Links - a dual the Streaks won by 9 strokes (152-161). GHS finished ahead of Rock Island in the Western Big Six meet September 28th in the Quad Cities. Galesburg finished second, five strokes behind Quincy. Rock Island and Alleman both combined to shoot 326 and tied for third place.
The Silver Streaks go into the sectional as one of the favorites. Galesburg, led by first-year coach Dean Betts, is trying to get back to the state tournament for the second straight season - and the third time in the past four years. The Silver Streaks finished 5th last year, 8th in 2007 and 4th in 2004 under then-coach Steve Cheesman.
The Class 2A state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Weibring Golf Club in Normal.
