M-R Going for Fourth Straight Trip to IHSA Class 1A Boys Golf Meet
Monmouth-Roseville's boys golf team has stiff competition from several area teams as the Titans try to return to the Class 1A state meet.

Monmouth-Roseville won its regional at Gibson Woods last week, defeating West Central by just one stroke (338-339). Ridgewood, a sports co-op between Alwood and Cambridge, also advanced to Monday's Aledo Sectional at Hawthorne Ridge.

The Titans, winners of six straight regional titles, are going for their fourth straight trip to state. Monmouth-Roseville finished 8th last year and 5th in both 2006 and 2007.

Rock Island Alleman and Illinois Valley Central are also considered strong contenders. Along with Ridgewood and West Central, other schools in the region hoping to move on are Peoria Christian and Putnam County.

Several boys golfers from the area qualified as individuals for the sectional. They include Alex Ott of Williamsfield, Jake and Alex Gavin of United, Tauge Rux and Cody Reiber of Galva, Jake Northrup of Brimfield-Elmwood along with Adam Camp and Nick Fulton of Farmington.

The state tournament is Friday and Saturday at the Prairie Vista golf course in Bloomington.
