GHS Girls Golf Team: Next Stop Rockford
Galesburg is riding high after last week's regional win at Geneseo.

The Silver Streaks and Peoria Notre Dame represent the area in Monday's Class 2A Rockford Regional at Ingersoll golf course.

Katarina Mangieri shot an 82, Jessica Lieber an 86 and Natalie Heck an 88 to lead Galesburg to a nine-stroke (362-361) victory last week against runner-up PND. Moline shot a 368 to finish third and advance to the sectional round.

Like the GHS boys, the Streak girls golfers are lead by a first-year varsity head coach. Marcy Herrin took over the program from long-time coach Lorraine Gottenborg. Galesburg wrapped up the regular season as the co-Western Big Six champions, sharing the title with Quincy.

Other contending teams in the sectional with Galesburg are Rockford Boylan and St. Charles East. The state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Hickory Ridge golf course in Carbondale.

Several girls golfers from the area are competing individually in the Class 1A Taylor Ridge Sectional. Knoxville has two representatives: Taylor Thompson and Abby Ball. The others include Korri Crawford and Madison Sharp of Brimfield-Elmwood, Brooke Bessine of West Central, Kelsey Watznauer of Farmington and Hannah Rowen of Stark County.

The Class 1A girls state meet is Friday and Saturday in southern Illinois at the Crab Orchard golf course in Carterville.
