| Ten Individuals and One Team Going Into GHS Athletic Hall of Fame |
Former Galesburg High School athletes, a football team and three long-time sports broadcasters will be inducted into the Galesburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame next month.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2009 inductees include Clay Britton (Class of 1980), Casey Piggee (Class of 1981) and Joe Swedlund (Class of 1974) - all basketball standouts for the Silver Streaks during their careers while Piggee also was an all-state baseball player.
Also being inducted is Sarah Larson (Class of 1999), who led the Silver Streaks girls basketball team to a second-place finish at state during her senior year and was a dominating force on the court.
Joining Larson is Eldon Arnold (Class of 1962) and Ted Olson (Class of 1959), both all-state football players at Galesburg High School, and the late Ruben Triplett (Class of 1969), an all-state basketball player.
Radio broadcasters Robb Strack, Jimmie Carr and Tom Wilson will be inducted into the athletic hall of fame as Friends of Galesburg High School. The three have been involved in calling Silver Streak sports for decades.
The 1966 Galesburg High School football team that finished with an 8-1 record is also being inducted.
The ceremony will be November 28th at 7:15 p-m between basketball games at the Thanksgiving Tournament at Thiel Gymnasium. WGIL AM 1400 will air the ceremony live, and it will also be carried live online at www.wgil.com. |
