|LOCAL COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES
Monmouth 51 (8-0, 7-0), Lake Forest 14 (2-6, 2-5)
Nick Wright and Kramer Matzen caught two touchdown passes each and the Monmouth College offense rolled up 613 yards - second only to the 679 yards the 1972 team racked up against Carleton - in a 51-14 win over Lake Forest.
Alex Tanney tied his own single game touchdown pass record with six TD tosses and 404 yards. Clay Bricker picked up seven of his game-high 148 rushing yards on the Scots' last score of the first half to give Monmouth a 35-0 halftime lead.
Carroll (3-5, 3-4) 28, Knox College (0-8, 0-7) 7
Carroll University defeated Knox College (0-8, 0-7) 28-7 as the Prairie Fire were unable to stop Carroll (3-5, 3-4) when Knox needed to.
The Fire's defense forced Carroll to 3rd down 19 times, only to see 12 of those go for 1st downs. Carroll managed 432 total yards of offense and controlled the ball for almost two-thirds of the game.
DIVISION I COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Joey Elliott passed for 166 yards and ran for 62 yards and a touchdown as Purdue beat Illinois 24-14 Saturday to avoid a letdown after upsetting Ohio State last week.
Juice Williams started at quarterback despite Illini coach Ron Zook's decision not to commit to him during the week. Williams completed 9 of 18 passes for 77 yards and an interception and ran 14 times for 38 yards.
The Boilermakers (3-5, 2-2) won back-to-back games for the first time this season. It was Purdue's first turnover-free game this year.
Iowa 15 Michigan State 13
Ricky Stanzi connected with Marvin McNutt for a 7-yard touchdown pass as time expired and seventh-ranked Iowa beat Michigan State and remain undefeated.
The Hawkeyes are 8-0 for the first time in school history and have sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.

NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE
Cristobal Huet made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season in the Chicago Blackhawks' 2-0 win over Nashville Saturday night.
Huet wasn't heavily tested in his 21st career shutout, but was sharp throughout the game. He made several close-in saves during Nashville's best offensive flurries, late in the second period and during power plays in the third.
Loui Eriksson had a goal and an assist, Marty Turco made 26 saves and the Dallas Stars beat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 improve to 4-0-and-3 on the road.
James Neal, Tom Wandell and Brian Sutherby also scored. Brad Richards added two assists to help the Stars set a franchise record with points in seven straight road games at the start of a season.
Alex Pietrangelo scored his first career NHL goal for the Blues, who have dropped three of four games at Scottrade Center. Ty Conklin stopped 27 shots.
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
After Saturday night's rainout of Game 6 of the American League Championship Series between the Yankees and L.A. Angels, they'll try again Sunday night in the Bronx.
The Yanks have a 3-2 series lead and need one more win to clinch their 40th American League pennant.
Yankees skipper Joe Girardi is sticking with left-hander Andy Pettitte as his starter. Pettitte is tied for the career high in postseason victories with 15.
The Angels are staying with Joe Saunders, a 16-game winner in the regular season.
Brad Keselowski held off points leader Kyle Busch on the final lap in a green-white-checker finish in the Nationwide Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Busch finished second and leads Carl Edwards by 215 points in the standings.

The Chicago Bears travel to take on the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon at 3:15 p-m.
