|High School Volleyball Regionals Begin Wednesday
|POSTED 12:11 p-m 10/26/9, UPDATED 9:20 a-m 10/27/9 The "second season" for area Class 1A high school volleyball teams begins Wednesday, followed by the 2A and 3A teams on Thursday.
The Class 1A Williamsfield Regional steps off Wednesday night at 6:00 with #4 seed Avon-Bushnell-Prairie City squaring off against #5 seed North Fulton. Top seed West Prairie takes on the winner of the first match at 7:00 for a spot in the championship match Saturday at 7 p-m.
The matchups at Williamsfield on Thursday are #2 seed Princeville against #7 Abingdon at 5:30 p-m, #3 Knoxville against #6 Williamsfield at 6:30 p-m and the Princeville/Abingdon winner taking on the Knoxville/Williamsfield winner in the third match of the night at 7:30 for a spot in the regional championship.
The Class 1A Rowva Regional (Oneida) gets underway Wednesday at 6 p-m with the #4 seed Tigers squaring off against #5 West Central. Next up at 7:00 is undefeated and #1 seed United playing the winner of the Rowva/West Central match for a spot in the regional championship Saturday at 7 p-m.
The matches on Thursday pit #3 Stark County against #6 Galva at 6 p-m and #2 Wethersfield playing the winner of the first match 7 p-m. The winner of Thursday's second match advances to the regional championship at 7 p-m Saturday.
Orion is the top seed in the Class 1A Fulton Regional. The first match has #4 seed Annawan playing #5 Erie at 6 p-m. The winner moves on to play #1 Orion at 7 p-m for one of the spots in Saturday's championship match at 7 p-m.
Ridgewood, the #2 seed, plays the second match Thursday at 7 p-m against the winner of the prior match at 6 p-m Thursday between #3 Fulton and #6 Prophetstown for the other spot in the regional championship.
The Class 1A Mackinaw Regional also gets started Wednesday night at 6:00 with #4 seed Delavan playing #5 Illini Bluffs. After that at 7:00 is #1 seed Mackinaw Deer Creek playing the winner of the Delavan/Illini Blufffs match for a spot in the regional championship Saturday at 6 p-m.
Lewistown, the #3 seed, meets #6 Peoria Heights Thursday at 6 p-m, with the winner advancing to the next match at 7:00 against #2 seed Tremont for the other spot in the regional title match.
South Fulton begins play in the Class 1A Astoria Regional Wednesday at 6 p-m against #5 seed Havana. The winner moves on to the 7:00 match to play #1 Hartsburg-Emden. The winner of that match advances to Saturday's regional champinship at 7 p-m.
The Thursday matches at Astoria find #3 Illini Central taking on #6 Greenview at 6 p-m followed by #2 Augusta Southeastern playing the winner of the first match at 7:00 for the other spot in Saturday night's regional title match.
The Class 2A Rockridge Regional begins Thursday night.
#5 seed Mercer County plays #4 Rockridge at 5:30 p-m, then it's #2 Monmouth-Roseville of the Olympic Conference meeting up with #3 Rock Island Alleman of the Western Big Six at 6:30. The winner moves on to the regional championship match Saturday at 1 p-m.
Sherrard, the top seed, awaits the winner of the Rockridge/Mercer County match Thursday night at 7:30. The winner earns a spot in the championship.
The Class 2A Farmington Regional also gets started Thursday at 5:30 p-m with the #4 seeded Farmers squaring off against #5 Peoria Manual. The next match at 6:30 p-m has #2 seed Peoria Christian playing #3 Canton, with the winner advancing to the regional championship. Top seeded Brimfield-Elmwood awaits the winner of the Farmington/Manual match for a spot in the championship Saturday at 7 p-m.
The Class 3A Galesburg Regional begins Thursday at 6 p-m with the #4 seeded Silver Streaks playing #1 seed Dunlap. The second match has #2 Peoria Richwoods going against #3 Peoria Notre Dame. The winners of the two matches meet in the regional championship Saturday at 1 p-m.
