|Monmouth College Volleyball Team Fighting for MWC Tourney Spot; Rooting for Rival Knox Down Homestretch
|POSTED 9:56 a-m 10/27/9 Monmouth College's volleyball team concludes regular season play in the Midwest Conference with a match Tuesday night at Illinois College.
The Fighting Scots are 4-4 in league play and battling Grinnell - also with a 4-4 conference record - for the fourth and final sport in the conference tournament. Three teams already have clinched: St. Norbert (20-9) and Beloit (22-4), both 7-0 in Midwest Conference play, and Ripon College (11-16) at 5-2.
Monmouth is 13-12 overall after beating Principia in a non-conference match last Saturday 3 games to 1. The Scots need a win against the Lady Blues, who are 2-6 in Midwest Conference play and 5-15 overall.
Grinnell, with a 12-15 overall record, wraps up conference play Wednesday night at home against Knox College (3-24). The Prairie Fire have do not have a conference victory this season (0-8) and Monmouth will be rooting for its rival to get its first against the Pioneers.
Lawrence and Lake Forest aren't completely out of the running yet. Both have 3-4 conference records. The Forresters (6-18) play Wednesday night at Carroll (12-16, 2-5) and the Vikings (14-15) visit Beloit, then they play each other Saturday at 11 a-m.
The Monmouth College-Illinois College match begins at 7:00.
