| Cubs Fan Now Owns Team He Loves |
POSTED 11:06 a-m 10/30/9 CHICAGO (AP) -- Tom Ricketts met his wife at Wrigley Field and once lived across the street from the fabled baseball park nestled in a neighborhood on Chicago's North Side.
Now, he and his family own the stadium and the Chicago Cubs. Ricketts calls it a "dream job," yet he knows managing a sports franchise is all business, too.
The family of billionaire Joe Ricketts, the founder of Omaha, Neb.-based TD Ameritrade, earlier this week closed a deal to buy a 95 percent controlling interest in the baseball franchise, its storied ballpark and 25 percent of Comcast Sportsnet.
The price tag was steep: $845 million.
