Longtime Sportscaster Art Kimball Dead at 78
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- Longtime central Illinois sportscasters broadcaster Art Kimball, who did play-by-play on more than 3,500 high school games, is dead at the age of 78.

Bloomington station WJBC reports that Kimball died Sunday after a long illness.

Besides his stint at WJBC, Kimball also worked at WLPO in LaSalle, and at stations in Carmi and Frankfort, Ind. He once served as sports director at a television station in Peoria and owned radio stations in Mendota and Shelbyville, Ind. Kimball also created the IHSA Sports Report, which once ran on many Illinois stations.

Known for his booming baritone voice, Kimball was a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and was named in 2008 as the first Pioneer Award by the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

Kimball is survived by his wife, Mary Lou.
