COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The Knox College Prairie Fire remain winless on the season, but lost in a close game to Ripon Saturday 26-20. Despite the loss, the Prairie Fire scored in every quarter except the 4th. Knox is now 0-5 overall, and 0-4 in Midwest Conference play.

Monmouth College didn't score nearly as many points as it normally does, but took sole possession of first place in the Midwest Conference Saturday with a 10-3 win over St. Norbert.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

Beau Salsman placed 73rd overall to pace the GHS Boys Cross Country team to a 35th place finish out of 55 teams at the Peoria High School Invitational Saturday at Detweiller Park. The GHS girls placed 31st out of 47 teams, led by Stephanie Saey's 51st place finish.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

In a pool play tournament Saturday in Burlington, the GHS Freshman Volleyball team took 3rd place, defeating Burlington, Kewanee, and Assumption, but losing to Bettendorf. Then, the team defeated Assumption and Sherrard in the 16-team tournament.

The GHS Sophomores lost to Davenport West and Iowa City West, but defeated Keokuk in the Burlington Sophomore Invitational Saturday.

Wethersfield defeated Prophetstown and Pecatonica, but lost to Milledgville, Sycamore, and Sterling Newman at the Sterling Tournament Saturday.

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Galesburg and Moline share the Western Big 6 Boys Golf Title after play Saturday, with both teams shooting a combined total of 314. Hunter Nesselroad and Kelby Rescinito placed 2rd and 3rd individually, while Joey Juergens and Kyle Osborn tied for 5th. Chad Moore was in a tie for 10th.

United's boys golf team won its own invitational Saturday. Brimfield came in second, Ridgewood came in 5th tying with Canton, Knoxville was 7th, North Fulton 8th, and Mid-County 9th.

HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN FOOTBALL

GHS Freshman defeated Rock Island 28-14, moving them to 4-2 on the season. The teams were tied at 14 at the end of the 1st quarter and halftime, before Christian Powers scored a touchdown in the 3rd, and Peyton Isaacson scored in the 4th. Both scored the touchdowns in the 1st quarter. Joey Range had over 100 yards rushing in the winning effort. The Streaks will play Quincy next Saturday morning.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

GHS Boys soccer defeated Pekin at home Saturday 3-1. Zach Riley led the Streaks with two goals.

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS

GHS girls placed 8th at the Rock Island Gold Invitational Saturday. Alex Shiplett defeated Sterling Newman's Abby Smith to take 7th place individually.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

Lawrence University 3, Knox College 0

COLLEGE GOLF

Knox College placed 5th of 6 teams at the Grinnell College Invitational Saturday, while Monmouth College took 4th place. Grinnell took the championship.

COLLEGE SOCCER

Monmouth College's women defeated Lake Forest 2-0, while the Monmouth College men tied Lake Forest 1-1.
