Bears Fan Explains Why He Slapped Devin Hester
CHICAGO (AP) -- A suburban man charged with assaulting Chicago Bears wide receiver Devin Hester is apologizing for what he did and explaining why he did it.

Daniel Rago of Mount Prospect tells WFLD-TV in Chicago that striking Hester was a dumb thing to do. Rago says he didn't recognize Hester. He says a cashier at the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines told Hester to step to another window. Rago says when he saw Hester step over he reacted instinctively out of concern for an elderly couple waiting in line longer than Hester.

Rago says he gave Hester a small smack on the head as a father might strike a child. He also says police are wrong in saying he'd been drinking,

Hester didn't retaliate. Rago was charged with misdemeanor battery.
