| Konerko Says Ventura Can Make it Work |
CHICAGO (AP) -- White Sox star Paul Konerko says he was surprised when he heard Robin Ventura would be the team's new manager.
Konerko says that even though Ventura has never been a manager, he has the smarts and the credentials to overcome his lack of experience.
Konerko joined the White Sox in 1999 and missed playing with Ventura by one season.
The first baseman said Friday he's been around Ventura at team functions and is confident he'll be able to handle clubhouse situations. Konerko said he's sure Ventura will rely on his coaches to initially help him make in-game decisions with pitching and other details.
Ventura's selection this week to replace manager Ozzie Guillen caught many people by surprise. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
