Make it two straight wins for the Galesburg High School volleyball team, as the Silver Streaks went to Rock Island last night and defeated the Alleman Pioneers in back-to-back games. The varsity Streaks are now off until Saturday when they at the Western Big 6 Quad to end the regular season.
Area volley ball teams that will be playing tonight include Knoxville hosting Lewistown, while United travels to Southeastern. In college play, the Carl Sandburg women are at home to Black Hawk.
High School Football Polls
Galesburg's opponent for Friday night's regular season football finale has worked it's way back into the top 10. The Peoria Richwoods Knights have moved into the #9 spot in this weeks poll in class 5A, following last week's 49-0 rout of Quincy Notre Dame. Meanwhile, in class 3A, Monmouth-Roseville is starting to get some attention following back-to-back wins against Rockridge and previously unbeaten St. Joes Ogden. The Titans have the 11th- most points in the new ratings. In class 1A, Stark County and United are mentioned. Mercer County continues to hold down the top spot in class 2A, while Alleman fell from it's perch atop the 4A ratings following Friday's loss to Rock Island. With the win, the Rocks moved up to the #4 spot in class 6A.
Knox HOF (yes there really is such a thing at Knox)!
Three individuals and a team will become the newest members of the Knox College-Lombard athletic hall of fame as part of this week's homecoming festivities on the Galesburg campus. Seth Kopf of the class of 2004, Mark McIntosh from the class of 1972, and former coach John McLean will be recognized this weekend. Also, the 1976 football team, which won a share of the Midwest Conference title, will be honored with a banquet Friday night, and during halftime of the Knox-Illinois College game on Saturday.
