Volleyball
The 2012 volleyball season came to an end last night for the Galesburg Silver Streaks, as they fell to top-seed Chillicothe IVC at the Geneseo Regional. IVC advances to play Dunlap in the tournament championship Thursday night.
The season also ended for the girls from Abingdon, Knoxville, and ROWVA. Abingdon fell to #1 seed West Prairie at Sciota; Knoxville lost to Mercer County at Aledo; and ROWVA was beaten by Princeville at Kewanee Wethersfield. The United Red Storm is the only area team left playing, as they set to battle Mercer County for the championship Thursday night in Aledo.
Football
Friday's playoff opponent for the Galesburg Silver Streaks football team is the Pioneers of Normal U-High. The game will be played at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, instead of the Pioneers usual home site of Hancock Stadium at Illinois State University.
Hockey
The financial troubles continue for the Quad City Mallards hockey team. The Central Hockey League has announced that it has taken control of the Moline-based organization in an effort to stabilize the Mallards and keep the team in the Quad Cities. The Mallards are scheduled to open their new season on the road Friday night in Tulsa, with their home opener set for Saturday. The Mallards have been in operation since 1995, and are entering their third season as a member of the Central Hockey League. |
