Volleyball
Regional championship games will played tonight in high school volleyball. The only team remaining from our immediate area is the United Red Storm. They are the #1 seed at the Aledo Regional, and will play the host Mercer County Golden Eagles tonight.
Elsewhere: North Fulton battles Peoria Christian at Peoria Heights; West Prairie meets Lewistown at Sciota; and Wethersfield and Princeville will play at Kewanee.
Coach's Award
Monmouth-Roseville boys basketball coach Chuck Grant has been selected to receive the 2011-12 IHSA boys basketball coach of the year award. Grant will be starting his 19th season as a head coach, and his 8th with the Titans. His teams have won 309 games, including nine regional titles and three sweet sixteen appearances. Grant's selection for the award also is based on the positive work he has done with student-athletes at the Warren County school. Grant will now compete with coaches from around the country for the National Boys Basketball Coach of the Year award that will be announced later this year.
On another basketball note, our featured guest at halftime of tomorrow night's Silver Streaks playoff football game with Normal U-High will be Galesburg boys hoops coach Mike Reynolds. We will preview the upcoming season, which is set to begin on Thanksgiving Eve at the Galesburg Tournament. |
