Illinois Rolls By Lewis in Exhibition
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- D.J. Richardson had 12 points and Tyler Griffey pulled down nine rebounds to lead Illinois past Lewis 79-47 in the Illini's exhibition opener Saturday.

Myke Henry and graduate student-transfer Sam McLaurin added 11 points each in coach John Groce's debut. Illinois shot 50 percent from the field.

Illinois led Division II Lewis 35-20 at halftime. The Illini went on an 8-2 run to open the second half, widening the gap to 21 points at 43-22.

Griffey had a game-high nine rebounds for Illinois, and Henry and Joseph Bertrand had six boards each. Guards Brandon Paul and Tracy Abrams had five assists apiece.

Ryan Jackson led Lewis with 17 points.

The Illini play another exhibition game on Nov. 4 against West Chester before opening the season Nov. 9 versus Colgate.
