HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

The season moves on for the Monmouth-Roseville Titans. The Titans took care of Peru St. Bede Saturday evening 40-27 in round one of the Class 3A playoffs. Martel Hunter scored three touchdowns en route to victory.

Some other area teams weren't so lucky. Lena-Winslow defeated Abingdon in Class 1A play 34-19. The Commandos end their season at 6-2.

West Central lost to Stockton 60-21, after falling 28-0 at one point. The Heat end the season at 5-5, while Stockton has a perfect 10-0 record.

Annawan-Wethersfield moves on after defeating Watseka 28-14.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

The Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Cross Country team moves on to the state meet thanks to some great runs Saturday at Illinois Central College. The Streaks placed fifth overall, while Stephanie Saey was the individual champion, running the nearly three-mile course in a time of 17:29. Monmouth-Roseville's girls moved on to state after placing 5th at the Sectional meet at Elmwood Saturday, while the boys just missed their chance at state by placing sixth.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The Monmouth Fighting Scots lost a heart-breaker to Illinois College 34-31, despite a late-game drive. It was Illinois College's first win over Monmouth since 1996.

COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY

Monmouth College's women's cross country team won the Midwest Conference Championship Saturday after 5 of the team's 7 runners finished in the top 20. Coach Roger Haynes won conference Coach of the Year Honors.
