Regional volleyball tournaments continue tonight, with a pair of games scheduled at all of the area venues. In Monmouth, the Galesburg Silver Streaks will take their shot at top-seeded Chillicothe IVC. Galesburg rallied to win the final two sets last night to pull off a mild upset over #4 seed Geneseo. The other game in Monmouth tonight has the host Titans playing Dunlap. Just outside of Monmouth at United High School, #1 seed Knoxville will play West Central in the opener, to be followed by Abingdon-Avon's match with the host Red Storm. At Annawan, ROWVA meets Wethersfield, and then Williamsfield plays Annawan. ROWVA advanced last night with a 3-set win over Ridgewood. The winners at all of tonight's semifinal matchups will play their Regional championships on Thursday.
The regular season is winding down for the Galesburg High School girls swimming team. The Silver Streaks will host Macomb today at Mustain Pool, which will be their final dual meet of the season.
The Illinois High School Association has released the starting times for this weekend's opening round of playoff football games. Most of the contests will be played on Saturday, including Knoxville's game at Elmwood, which will begin at 3:30. Elsewhere, the class 1A game at Abingdon has the Tornadoes hosting Chicago Hope at 6pm. The Western Big-6 rematch of Quincy at Rock Island will be played Saturday afternoon at 2.
Several Friday night games include Stark County hosting Flanagan at 7pm and Peoria Richwoods traveling to Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin, also Friday at 7.
