Regional volleyball championship matches will be played tonight in Illinois. In the local area, United High School is the host for the class 2A title match between 24-and-7 Knoxville and 22-and-14 Abingdon-Avon. Another 2A title will be decided in Brimfield, where the hosts will play the top-seed Stark County. The United and Brimfield regional winners will then play each other Tuesday night at the Farmington Sectional.
The men's soccer season at Carl Sandburg College came to an end yesterday, as the Chargers lost to Oakton 4-to-2 in the Region 4 semifinals. It ended the best season in the school's soccer history, as Sandburg finished with a record of 15-5.
The Rockridge Rockets have taken over the top spot in the final class 2A football poll of the season. They moved up from the #3 spot last week, after Mercer County lost to Annawan-Wethersfield, and Moroa-Forsythe was moved down a class to 1A for the playoffs that begin this weekend. Most of the games are on Saturday, but Stark County plays tomorrow night, as they play host to Flanagan at 7 o'clock.
