Illinois Valley Central put an end to Monmouth-Roseville's postseason run in the championship of the Class 2A Chillicothe Sectional.

The Grey Ghosts (30-5) beat the Titans in two games: 25-19, 27-25 to advance to the Spring Valley Hall Supersectional. Rebecca Gillen led M-R with eight kills and nine blocks.

The Titans end the season with a 22-16 record.


Carl Sandburg College's men's basketball team earned its first win of the season at Clinton College.

CSC jumped out to a nine-point halftime lead (37-28) and never looked back, winning 80-68. The Chargers (1-1) had five players score in double-figures. Jeremy Sewell led the way with 17 points, D.T. Thornton had 14, Isiah Cunningham 12 - all in the second half - Steve Reynolds 12 and Patrick Williams 11.

Sandburg plays at Vincennes University Saturday night.


Monmouth College lost at Western Illinois University in an exhibition game.

Ceola Clark of WIU led all players with 21 points as the Leathernecks beat the Fighting Scots 75-64 at Western Hall.

The Scots had a 21-20 lead with 8:10 to play in the first half when Western scored the next seven points to take the lead for good.

Monmouth shot 46 percent in the game. Eric Cogdill led the Scots with 20 points and 8 rebounds.

This was the only exhibition game for the Scots and the team opens the season November 15th at Minnesota State University.
