High School Football Playoffs - Saturday

>Class 1A:

United (9-1) travels to Heyworth (7-3) for their Class 1A second round match-up at 1:00. The winner moves on to play either undefeated top seed Lexington (10-0) or LeRoy (8-2) in the state quarterfinals.

South Fulton (7-3) hosts Greenfield-Northwestern (7-3) at 2:00 in Table Grove in Class 1A. The winner meets either undefeated #1 seed Brown County (10-0) or Tuscola (7-3) in next week's third round.

>Class 2A:

Knoxville (8-2) hosts Orion (9-1) at 1:00. The winner plays either undefeated Morrison (10-0), a #1 seed, or Lanark Eastland (8-2) next week in the quarterfinals.

Annawan-Wethersfield (9-1) plays at Amboy (9-1) at 1:00

Mercer County (8-2) is on the road at Gibson City (9-1) at 2:00

*The winner of the Annawan-Wethersfield/Amboy game plays the winner of the Mercer County/Gibson City game in the third round.

College Football

Monmouth College and Knox College square off in the annual Bronze Turkey game Saturday afternoon at Knox.

The Fighting Scots are trying to end the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record for the second straight year. The Prairie Fire earned their first win last week at Lake Forest.

Monmouth has beaten Knox ten straight times and leads the series, which dates back to 1888, with a record of 60-50-10.

The kickoff from the Knosher Bowl is at 1:00.


Illinois (2-6, 1-5) plays at Minnesota (5-4, 3-3) - coverage begins at 11:00 on WGIL AM 1400


#8 Iowa (9-0, 5-0) hosts Northwestern (5-4, 2-3) - 11 a-m


Eastern Illinois plays at Illinois State - 1 p-m

Top 25 College Football - Friday Night

RUSTON, La. (AP) -- Kellen Moore threw for 354 yards and three touchdowns and fifth-ranked Boise State survived a brief scare on the road with a 45-35 victory over upstart Louisiana Tech to run its record to 9-0 (5-0 WAC).

Tech had pulled within two points before Jeremy Avery's 44-yard touchdown run capped his big night with 146 yards rushing.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Jeff Gordon earned the pole for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race with Kasey Kahne on the outside of the front row at Texas Motor Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson, who needs only to finish 10th or better in the final three races to win an unprecedented fourth straight drivers' title, will start from the Number-12 hole.
