|Western Big Six Represented in Class 4A Volleyball State Semifinals
|POSTED 10:54 a-m 11/9/9 A Western Big Six team will be trying to bring home a volleyball state championship later this week.
Quincy, this year's Big Six champion with a perfect 10-0 record, meets LaGrange Lyons Township in the Class 4A state semifinals Friday night at 7:30 at Redbird Arena.
The Blue Devils (37-3) lost just one set in conference play this season, on October 15th when Quincy defeated conference runner-up Moline two games to one. The Blue Devils went on to beat United Township in the semifinals and the Maroons in the championship of the Moline Regional.
Quincy advanced to state by winning the Normal West Sectional - beating both Normal Community and O'Fallon in straight sets - and the Normal Community Supersectional when the Blue Devils toppled Benet Academy in two games.
LaGrange Lyons Township (36-4) beat Oak Lawn, Oak Park Fenwick, Chicago St. Ignatius and Chicago Mother McAuley - all in two games - to qualify for the state semifinals.
The Blue Devils are making their second state appearance in school history and their first since 1999.
The two other semifinalists are Cary-Grove and Glenbrook South. They play Friday at 6:30 p-m in the first match.
The Class 3A state semifinalists are Sycamore and Breese Mater Dei, which play Friday at 4:30 p-m, followed by Joliet Catholic Academy and Crystal Lake Central at 5:30.
The semifinalists in Class 2A are Freeburg, Carlinville, Palos Heights Chicago Christian and Harvard. Freeburg and Carlinville play Friday at 11:30 a-m. Chicago Christian and Harvard hook up at 12:30.
The first semifinal matchups are the Class 1A teams: Mount Pulaski and Payson Seymour at 9:30 Friday morning ahead of Lanark Eastland's match against Toledo Cumberland at 10:30.
The third place and championship matches are Saturday, starting with Class 1A at 9:30 a-m.
