|Gibbons Steps Down as Knox Football Coach; A-D Eisele Taking Over
|UPDATED 9:49 a-m 11/10/9 Knox College will have a new head football coach next season.
Andy Gibbons, who's led the Prairie Fire program for the past 14 seasons, stepped down Monday. He stressed the decision was his alone, and he called it the best move for both Knox and his family.
College officials say athletic director and offensive coordinator Chad Eisele will take over for Gibbons, who will remain on the staff as defensive coordinator and assistant coach.
Eisele, a Knox College graduate who played football for his alma mater, previously had a successful coaching run at Lake Forest College. He compiled a 31-20 record leading the Foresters in five seasons. Lake Forest captured the 2002 Midwest Conference Championship, the school's first since 1983, and made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs. Eisele was named the MWC coach of the year that season.
Eisele was hired as athletics director at Knox in 2006 and takes over a football program that's in search of its first winning season since 2002.
Knox finished the 2009 season with a 1-9 record.
