| United, Monmouth-Roseville Volleyball Teams Vying to Stay Alive in Sectionals |
POSTED 11:19 a-m 11/2/9 The United and Monmouth-Roseville volleyball teams will try to keep their seasons alive Tuesday night in sectional play. The Red Storm, with a 36-0 record, beat Wethersfield in two games (25-11, 27-25) to win the Class 1A Rowva Regional. United will play Illini Central Tuesday at 6 p-m in the first semifinal match of the Lewistown Sectional. Illini Central beat top seed Hartsburg-Emden to win the Astoria Regional. The second semifinal matchup at 7 p-m has Princeville (20-8) taking on fellow #2 seed Tremont. The Lady Princes beat top seed West Prairie in three games (25-20, 13-25, 25-19) to win the Williamsfield Regional. Tremont knocked out the top-seeded hosts of the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Regional in three games to advance. The winners of the two semifinal matches play Thursday night at 7:00 for a spot in the Class 1A Abingdon Supersectional. Monmouth-Roseville (21-15) defeated Olympic Conference rival Sherrard in two games (25-8, 25-21) to win the Class 2A Taylor Ridge Regional. The Titans face off against Brimfield-Elmwood (21-7) Tuesday night at 7:00 in the Chillicothe Sectional. The Indians topped Canton in two games (25-13, 25-19) to claim the Farmington Regional championship. The first sectional semifinal matchup pits El Paso-Gridley (21-6), which beat Eureka to win the El Paso Regional, against Fieldcrest Regional champion Illinois Valley Central (28-5). IVC beat Hall to advance to the sectional round. The two semifinal winners play Thursday night at 7:00 for a spot in the Class 2A Spring Valley Hall Supersectional. |
