| Former Cubs Skipper Riggelman to be Named Nationals' Manager |
WASHINGTON (AP) -- According to the team's Web site and Washingtonpost.com, the Washington Nationals have decided to name Jim Riggleman their manager. He had been the interim manager. Although the Nationals had baseball's worst record at 59-103 last season, they showed marked improvement after Riggleman replaced Manny Acta, who was fired at the All-Star break. The Nationals were 33-42 with Riggleman as interim manager. They actually have baseball's current longest active winning streak, finishing with seven straight victories. Riggleman turned 57 this week. He's also managed San Diego, Seattle and the Chicago Cubs. He has a 555-694 lifetime record as manager. An official announcement is expected Thursday.
