|HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS - SATURDAY SCHEDULE
Five area high school football teams eyeing a spot in the state semifinals play Saturday afternoon.
United (10-1) hosts Lexington (11-0) in the Class 1A quarterfinals at 1:00. The winner will face either Lena-Winslow (10-1) or East Dubuque (10-1).
South Fulton (8-3) plays at Tuscola (8-3) at 4:00. The winner moves on to play either defending state champion Triopia (10-1) or Jacksonville Routt (8-3).
Annawan-Wethersfield (10-1) hosts Gibson City (10-1) at 2:00 in the Class 2A quarterfinals. Whoever wins that game will play the winner of the third-round matchup between Orion (10-1) and Morrison (11-0) at Morrison. That game kicks off at 1:00.
Peoria Richwoods (10-1) hosts Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin (11-0) at 1:00. The winner plays either Washington (11-0) or Joliet Catholic Academy (9-2) in the Class 5A quarterfinals.
LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Galesburg High School hosts its annual "Meet the Streaks" boys basketball scrimmage Saturday night at Thiel Gym.
The freshman team takes the floor first at 6:00. The sophomore squad follows at 6:45 and the varsity team plays at 7:30.
Admission is a six-pack of a sport drink. The Silver Streaks varsity team begins the season November 23rd against Peoria Woodruff at 7:30 in the Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Bushnell-Prairie City-Avon booster club is hosting HOOPS FEST 2009 at the B-PC High School gym to meet the basketball players and cheerleaders.
Introductions of the junior high boys and girls basketball teams and cheerleaders will start around 6:00, followed by the high school girls and boys basketball teams and cheerleaders.
The teams will scrimmage and admission is canned or non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Bushnell Food Pantry.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Freshman guard Brandon Paul scored 22 points, and No. 23 Illinois rolled to a 96-69 victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Friday night. The Illini -- ranked in the preseason Top 25 for the first time since 2005 -- shot 55.4 percent from the field and scored their most points in a game since 105 against Longwood in 2004.
