High School Girls Basketball

@ Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament:

Galesburg beat Illini West 88-80 to open the season.

Jessica Howard led the Streaks in scoring with 20 points and Shelby Pacheco had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Galesburg hit nine three-point baskets in the game and made 35-of-52 free throw attempts. GHS next plays Friday night at 8:00 against Metamora.

The GHS girls sophomore team had an easy time against Illini West, winning 76-44. The Streaks' Jessica Lieber scored a game-high 25 points. Sharron Diggins added 16 and Myra Diggins had 10 for GHS.


@ Lady Cranberry Classic:

Abingdon (1-1) defeated West Central (0-2) 38-22. Codan Jones scored 18 points for the Commandos. Samantha Arnold led the Heat with 8 points.

Rowva (2-0) outscored Mercer County (0-2) 25-11 in the second half and beat the Golden Eagles 48-24. Kelsey Kovacik scored 14 points to lead the Tigers. Haley Maynard had 6 for Mercer County.


@ Fulton County Tournament:

Canton (2-0) defeated North Fulton (0-2) 56-43. Meredith Beoletto and Courtney McKown each had 14 points for the Wildcats in the loss. The Lady Giants got 13 points from Mallory Moser while Beth Wilson added 12.

Lewistown (1-0) won its season opener against Farmington (0-2) 58-54. Kailie Bainter scored 17 points, Rachel Bull had 14 and Whitney Wilkinson added 10 for the Indians. Rachel Stobaugh scored a game-high 25 for the Farmers.


Women's College Basketball

Monmouth College lost its season opener at home 75-51 against Carthage College.

The Lady Reds shot 67% in the first half to take a 37-18 halftime lead. The Fighting Scots got within 13 points (37-24) early in the second half, but Carthage responded and won going away.

Lynsey Barnard led Monmouth with 13 points, Colleen Forrest had 12 - all on three-point makes - and Justine Boone added 10.
