|It's Time for High School Boys Basketball
|Galesburg got its Thanksgiving Tournament back and the Silver Streaks play in it Monday night to kick off the new season.
The Silver Streaks are hoping to put together the program's first winning season in nine years. The quest begins against Peoria Woodruff, which is playing its final season because the school will be closing.
Galesburg finished with an 11-15 record last season. The Streaks return leading scorer, junior Dalton Davis (11.8 ppg, 41 3-pt fg), an honorable mention all-conference selection, at one of the guard spots. Senior forward Victor Davis, the team's leading rebounder (8.3 rpg) and second-leading scorer (10.4 ppg) who was a first-team all-conference selection last season, is also back. The team will again need big contributions from both Dalton Davis and Victor Davis this season.
Galesburg should get some help from junior forward Chad Thompson (20 3-pt fg), who is a dangerous threat from outside, and junior guard Brandon Thompson, who connected on 15 three-point baskets last season and scored in double-figures in three of his last six games.
Woodruff has two highly touted players in Deontre Dorsey, a 5'11" junior guard who is explosive and quick with the basketball, and 6'4" junior forward Ty Amos. Amos is an athletic big man who could average a double-double this season for the Warriors.
Galesburg and Woodruff did not meet last season. Their meeting Monday night tips off around 7:30 after the first game between Pekin and Peoria Manual. Pregame coverage begins around 7:06 on WGIL AM 1400 and online at www.wgil.com.
