Local College Basketball
Carl Sandburg College's women's team opened the new season on the road with a win. The Chargers (1-0) turned a 32-30 halftime deficit into a 68-57 victory at Waubonsee College. Sandburg shot a blistering 14-of-27 behind the three-point line but committed 25 turnovers. Princeville native Michelle Storm led the Chargers with a double-double: 23 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor Rice added 11 points and 6 rebounds and Cecilia Duenas had 11 points. Head coach Mike Bailey also praised the efforts of guard Sarah Heller, who had 9 points and 7 assists. The Chargers play their home opener Tuesday against Spoon River College.
Local College Volleyball
Carl Sandburg College's season came to an end in the first round of the Region IV Tournament in Freeport. The Chargers lost to Highland in three straight sets (17-25, 7-25, 18-25).
Chelsea Simkins had four kills, one block and six digs for CSC. Teammates Brooke Thompson added three kills, Malinda Anderson chipped in with three kills, one ace and a block while Trisha Beswick had 13 assists. |
