| NCAA Penalizes Michigan for Major Violations |
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- The NCAA has added a third year of probation to Michigan's football program for rules violations related to practice and training time.
The NCAA also ordered coach Rich Rodriguez to attend a rules seminar but otherwise said the school had punished itself appropriately for the problems that cropped up last year.
The NCAA charged the program with five major rules violations and the school accepted responsibility for four of them. Michigan disagreed with the charge that Rodriguez failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance in his program _ and that charge is not in Thursday's statement from the NCAA.
