A number of local high schools were involved in Thanksgiving tournaments Friday.
The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team hosted a tournament for the first time in a couple years. The Streaks began strong with a 55 to 23 route of Chicago Collins Academy, and later in the day, the streaks won again over Urbana 68 to 54. Saturday the streaks take on Washington at 11:55, hear that on WGIL 1400AM as well as later at 7:06 when the streaks battle Thornridge.
Williamsfield hosted a tourney as well, but didn't have the same luck losing 51 to 41 to West Central High School. In that same tournament Monmouth-Roseville stomped Galva 74 to 36, and United defeated Henry 42 to 33.
In girls basket ball, the Galesburg silver streaks won in a big way over Metamora Friday 78 to 47. They'll try for another victory Saturday evening at 5:40 against Rich East. Also in the girls Thanksgiving tournament, Knoxville defeated Leroy 53-33
In the high school football Friday, Illini West became class 3A state champs after knocking down Stillman Valley in a nail-bitter 22 to 20. And in class 4A it was Rochester over Rock Island Alleman 24 to 7. |
