Local Sports Roundup 11/11/10
The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team dropped their season opener on the road Wednesday night at Lincoln College 71-64. The Chargers led by 3 at the half, and spread their advantage to 9 points (41-32) with 15 minutes remaining, but coach Mike Bailey said a rash of turnovers cost the Chargers down the stretch. Diamond Burt led CSC in scoring with 17 points.

Next up for the women is the John Wood Classic in Quincy on Friday and Saturday.

It's Veterans Day, so there is no school at Galesburg High, but there will be basketball Thursday, as the Silver Streaks girls will have their "Meet the Streaks" scrimmage. The Freshman will play at 6, the sophomores follow at 6:45, and the varsity hits the floor at 7:30. Admission is a sports drink (gatorade/powerade).

They'll be talking boys basketball next Wednesday in the Quad Cities, as the Rock Island/Milan booster club will again be hosting the annual Western Big-6 preseason coaches banquet at the botanical gardens in Rock Island. Galesburg coach Mike Reynolds will be joined by Shawn Taylor of Quincy, Ryan Webber of Moline, Tom Sigel of Rock Island and the rest of the Big-6 bosses as they talk about their teams prospects for the upcoming season. (You can get your first look at this years Silver Streaks boys team this Saturday night in their preseason scrimmage at John Thiel Gym).
