U-Haul Nixes Truck Malfunction Claim In Yale Death
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- A U-Haul official says comments by the attorney of a driver of a rented truck that struck and killed a woman at the Yale-Harvard football game were ''reckless, inappropriate and disrespectful to the victims and their families.''

Attorney William Dow had called Saturday's crash a ''tragic accident that appears to be the result of a vehicle malfunction.'' Dow represents Yale student Brendan Ross, who had been driving the truck.

U-Haul Co. of Connecticut President Pete Sciortino said Monday that Dow had no basis to claim that the vehicle malfunctioned.

The truck was impounded as part of the investigation. Police say it could take weeks or months before they can determine whether anyone should face charges.

Ross passed a field sobriety test after the crash, which left two other women injured.
