|Bears' Cutler To Have Surgery Wednesday
|CHICAGO (AP) -- Bears general manager Jerry Angelo says quarterback Jay Cutler will have surgery Wednesday to repair the fractured thumb on his right throwing hand.
Angelo said on NFL.com Tuesday that team doctors hope Cutler will return before the end of the regular season and that the Bears are ''anticipating a good result.''
Cutler was injured trying to help tackle Antoine Cason on an interception return in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 31-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers. The Bears (7-3) are expected to go with Caleb Hanie at Oakland this week, but they are looking for a veteran backup.
One option could be Kyle Orton, the quarterback they traded to Denver for Cutler in April 2009. He was released by the Broncos on Tuesday.
