LOCAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL
The lead changed hands 14 times as the Monmouth College women fell in their home opener with North Central 47-46. Neither team led by more than five points as cold shooting prevented the Scots and the Cardinals from opening a gap. With two minutes left in the game, the Scots' Taylor Rubarts drained a pair of free throws to give Monmouth a 46-45 lead. North Central turned the ball over on their next possession, but the Scots' couldn’t convert three consecutive shots on their end. North Central took the lead for good on a bucket in the paint with 26 seconds left. Both teams shot less than 30 percent from the field. Marla Willard recorded her second consecutive double-double for Monmouth with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Zipporah Williams pulled down 14 boards for Monmouth in a losing effort. |
