| NBA Owners, Players End Talks For The Night |
NEW YORK (AP) -- NBA owners and players have ended negotiations for the night after meeting for more than eight hours.
They met late into the night Saturday in hopes of ending the lockout before it could do further damage to an already-shortened schedule. Federal mediator George Cohen faces a difficult task in trying to help the sides close the financial gap that derailed talks again last week.
Owners are determined not to give players anything more than a 50-50 split of basketball-related income. Players, who were guaranteed 57 percent under the old collective bargaining agreement, have proposed a reduction to 52.5 percent, leaving the sides about $100 million apart annually based on last season's revenues.
Commissioner David Stern already has canceled all games through November.
